Are you getting ready to sign the closing papers on your very first home? Have you been dreading the thought of actually needing to move from where you're living now to your new place? Although moving to a new house of your very own is extremely exciting, less thrilling is the potential stress that comes with packing up and moving from one home to another. But it doesn't have to be stressful. There are many things you can do to make it easier and less stressful on yourself and your whole family. Some things you can do include:
Hire professionals: One of the biggest stressors on moving day is whether or not you'll have enough people show up to help you move. When you ask for help moving, your friends and relatives may feel obliged to agree at that time and then cancel on you at the last moment. Even if you offer to compensate them with fuel, pizza, or money, they may not show up. But when you hire professional moving companies, you know that you'll have people there on your moving day to help transport your belongings to your new home.
Start packing now: If your closing date is in a few weeks, now is the perfect time to start sorting and packing your belongings. Unless you're planning on doing some renovations to your new place before you move, you'll probably want to be moved into your new place just a few weeks after the closing papers have been signed. Waiting until after you actually call the local moving companies in your area to start packing is just silly. You know that you'll be moving, so you might as well get a head start on everything by packing up your most important items and your out-of-season wardrobe first.
Send your kids and/or pets away: As much as you love your kids or pets, it's a good idea to get a sitter to watch younger kids and/or animals on moving day. You'll have enough to do supervising the actual move without supervising them as well. You may send them outside or stick them in an empty room, but they may still get out and make a nuisance of themselves during the move. Some moving companies may even have a policy that they won't work while there are small children or pets in the home, in order to help prevent potential injuries to any animals or people. Not having to worry about where your kids or pets are and whether they're possibly hurting themselves will do a lot to alleviate stress during the moving process.
